DK Leveling DH Leveling Atonement is doing 1 point of healing on damaging an enemy. So I did a couple of BfA dungeons tonight on my newly squished 45 Disc priest tonight and I felt like I was taking crazy pills!

Am I nuts? Anyone else having issues? I have not had that issue, lag perhaps? I can confirm atonement is messed up for me. This could be a weird scaling issue. I was leveling my Warlock a while back and there was a talent that dealt damage based on the damage left in the DoTs on the target.

That may be the culprit, but the problem with that in this case is that it makes the healing useless, which is supposed to be the entire point of this spec! Comments Comment by If this works on the priest who originally casted the smite then this talent will bring a whole new meaning to the energizer spec. Looks like it does work on the priest Whenever the hell it pleases.

I tried soloing an elite and got stomped. Comment by does this spell only work on allys and friend and not your self or can i cast smit for dmg and then get a heal for when soloing? Comment by Veltheris This does work on the priest who uses smite, but has been changed to heal for less. Before the change, the Priest was basically Immortal, healing for a lot more damage than they took.

Comment by Will have to play with this on my Disc Priest. Looks like it can be handy when you have nothing to do so you just dps the nearest monster. This makes Smite pretty much into an off-heals spell when you're in a slow fight. Comment by tonppa3d Yea, this is broken at the moment. I am hitting target dummies and this is healing 80 and with criticals Comment by I did some testing in orgrimmar to see if maybe they changed it so you had to be under a cetain percent for the heal to proc.

Result: Nada! Comment by it's also showing an 8 yard range on the tooltip. That's barely any use at all. Right now it heals one friendly near the target for the correct amount. Compared to yesterday when it healed for 80 crit. I must say I still liked it better when it healed several targets, and the range could use a boost as well.. Only one target getting healed is kinda lame, and if this is how it's going to work the range would need a big boost and even then I'm not sure if it's worth using.

Also kinda sucks that the heal can't be boosted by Archangel. Comment by Tested on a training dummy, used Shadow Word: Death so I had some hp missing, and it kept healing other random people who weren't even in my party, who were at full hp. On the positive side, I was able to keep moderately geared tanks and the party up in some heroic instances just by smiting everything and tossing out a few shields. Comment by This talent has a crippling flaw in that the heal range on it is so small, that many raid bosses are too large for the heal to reach the tank or other melee, due to it originating from the center of their hitbox.

Aside from that, I'm loving it, namely since I'm one of those priests who couldn't resist the urge to do some smiting in between my heals, and now I can do both at same time. EDIT: Range on the heal was changed to 15 yards, which should remove the aforementioned problem. Comment by nkouzmad The tooltip is a little misleading. Due to it not being possible to use a mouseover macro with this spell directly, take a look at our macros section for a useful macro to accomplish this.

While this spell is active, utilize Power Word: Shield as your primary single-target Atonement activator to avoid moving the cooldown reduction off the intended target.

Power Word: Shield is best used in situations when you are on the move or the target is not currently damaged. On the other hand, Shadow Mend can be a great way to spot heal and apply Atonement in situations where you have the time to stop moving in order to cast it and when the direct heal of the spell will contribute.

Shadow Mend is usually the better spell to use in most situations and should not be considered only an emergency heal. Power Word: Radiance provides a quick method of getting Atonement out in your group and remains the most global cooldown and Mana-efficient spell per seconds of Atonement applied. While the guidelines we have given so far will enable you to perform very decently as a Discipline Priest, there are some subtleties which you need to be aware of if you want to play your character to its full potential.

Discipline Priests have two absorption effects by default, and a third one that can be gained from talents. Power Word: Shield is quite simple. You place a shield on a target, which absorbs a certain amount of damage, depending on Shields benefit from your critical strike chance, absorbing twice as much damage when this effect procs. Damaging an enemy with Mind Blast causes a part of of the next damage that they deal to be absorbed.

This works on castable abilities as well as boss auto-attacks. Penance is best used offensively unless a target requires healing and you are unable to stop and cast Shadow Mend. Penance also will begin healing the target faster than alternatives, so if a quicker heal is needed, Penance can be used defensively. Keep in mind that without a Power of the Dark Side proc, Shadow Mend does more healing than a defensively used Penance.
