Should i upgrade my rebel xti

He's messing around with an old Olympus Tough point and shoot. Probably need better sport lens for basketball but the Xti is pretty old so may be worth replacing with a new body as well.

However, suggest you rent a newer body to try first, otherwise new lens may be in order. Also made a thread on purchase guide just before Xmas so may help in your selection too.

The Devil made me buy it - RFD. I had the XSi and upgraded to a T2i. It was a noticeably better upgrade in both IQ and focusing.

Next I went to the 70D, and focusing for moving subjects was noticeable improved. I would definitely go with the upgrade.

Just the features you have on today's even entry level bodies are worth the upgrade. I upgraded from an xt to xti back in the day It I'd the only upgrade that I didn't feel was worth my money.

It is first and foremost the lens that you need to be decent are faster than the basic lenses you get as a package. There is a new camera coming out i think the 60d oh yes you just mentioned it drool.. Aim for the stars no need for looking in the gutter. If i could get a semi professional i would jump at it but alas like you i had to budget but i am so happy with my camera and my lenses old and new.

Now, because you do shoot some event photography, having a backup camera is definitely a musthave of course you can just rent a spare body However, given the gear you have listed, I would prioritize upgrading that instead.
