This secluded seafront is an extension of the beautiful Juhu Beach, from which it is separated by a creek. The namesake village of this beach is known for being home to Kolis — a large fishing community. Fish markets of this beach and village are famous across Mumbai for the variety they offer.
Since time immemorial, this beach has been a prominent part of the city, wherein it served as a significant port. The beach faces the Arabian Sea and watching the mesmerising vistas of sunrise and sunset from this waterfront is an experience that draws several visitors to this place.
Versova Beach offers many activities like swimming, cycling, snorkelling and horse riding. It is also the venue of several celebrations like Coconut Day and Ganesh Chathurthi, which are worth attending. Coming soon! Not now Logout Log in. Shocked environmentalists want these concrete blockages to be removed in order to save the Versova beach. MUMBAI: The famous Versova beach in suburban Mumbai which was once a nesting site for Olive Ridley turtles, has been completely ruined by the new retaining wall and the countless tetrapods dropped on the sandy shore. The entire beach has been covered with tetrapods, so there is no way one can even walk on the sand now, leave alone have Olive Ridley turtles laying their eggs here. We environmentalists demand that the second retaining wall be removed as also the tetrapods, as they are illegally put there and further damage the ecology,'' said green activist Zoru Bathena.
In January , when the second retaining wall was being built, Bathena had complained to the state authorities, including Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, and had got a 'stop work' notice issue for this wall. It is sad to see how this beach has been destroyed,'' said Bathena.
